Eagles Wings had made a donation of £1000 to a small fishing community on the east coast which had been hit badly by a cyclone in November 2006. Many villagers had lost their fragile homes and were struggling under a few feet of water with little or no way of coping.
Our local representative in Andhra Pradesh, Prem Babu, who we have known for over 15 years, took the money to Chirala personally and bought food, water and specific items that would support families on a longer term basis.
We bought:
- Fishing nets (commercial fishing)
- Bicycles (simple taxi service)
- A Tricycle (goods transportation)
- Weighing scales (trading at the market)
- Irons and ironing boards (service industry)
In case you have never seen an iron like this, you put hot coals or charcoal into the iron for heat and the heavy weight of the iron and elbow grease does the rest !!
