Moses and Mary Mwangi Girls Home, Elburgon

Completion of the girls’ home has been slower than anticipated. A closer look revealed that the process of releasing funds to pay suppliers and labourers was laborious and involved too many signatories.

The process has been effective in getting the maximum number of Kenyan shillings to the pound, and has ensured that every penny is accounted for. However, we have made some changes to speed things up.

Samuel Karoki has been promoted to oversee the project and will pay workers directly. He is known to be a reliable, honest and trustworthy worker, and has been involved in the project with his wife since its conception. Funds are now available to finish the ceilings, doors, windows and beds in order to see the girls into their home.

The girls are doing well, and are being looked after temporarily by local families. Their diet has improved and their basic needs are being met.

 Care of the girls
In addition to accommodating the 39 girls, the home has been built to have a resident ‘Mum’ to look after them. This is a key position. We are keen to

provide a loving, caring environment in which each individual is valued and has their needs met, be they physical, emotional or spiritual.

It is our desire to see the girls educated and taught life skills to prepare them for the time they leave home and have to stand on their own

Can you help?

To move the girls into the home as soon as possible we urgently need to buy the following:
Industrial cooker
£1200
Refrigerator
£375
Washing machine
£340
Ironing facilities
£115
First Aid kits complete with medicine
£1000
Beds (20 double bunks)
£1000

Eagles Wings is looking for sponsors to help drill for water:
Some of the costs will be recovered by selling this fresh water to the community. The proceeds will go towards the running costs of the girl’s home.

Running Water: There is no fresh water supply to the girl’s home.
Water is currently hauled by tractor in large containers from a local drilled bore hole in the town. This is expensive and laborious and costs £20 per week which will increase once the girls move in.

There is water available under ground! The rock is granite but at 150 meters depth, fresh clean drinking water is present. Drilling a bore hole in Kenya is expensive (estimated at £9,000 to drill the hole plus another £9,800 to pump out the water, store and distribute it cleanly and effectively. Total estimated cost £18,800
