Eagles Wings news: A team from Eagles Wings are visiting Kenya and Uganda in November 2008, to oversee and update our current country projects, including Elburgon Girls Home, the Katwe Slum Project, Kampala and Kericho District Hospital, Kenya

Ghana

Whilst Ghana enjoys an increasing improvement in its standard of living, there are still young and vulnerable children who pray each day that food will arrive.

Such were the orphans that Eagles Wings were able to visit. These children live in the most basic of conditions; just a few pieces of wood tacked together and a wooden frame for a bed, with a moth eaten piece of sponge as a mattress. No sheets or blankets for these kids. Here the children subsist on whatever the house mother can scratch together for them.

Eagles Wings were able to donate food that will keep them going for a while. It was like a carnival as the older boys carried in large sacks of maize, soup mix, bottles of cooking oil and dried milk; the younger children dancing around them. Another visitor provided a case full of shoes, but sadly my lasting memory is of a small girl sobbing on a step because there were no shoes to fit her.

We moved on to the Countryside Children’s Welfare Home where the most amazing lady; Emma Yeboah and her husband have given their lives and any hope of personal comfort to care for scores of children ranging from birth to young adults. Many of the babies come straight to the home from the hospital where they are born to local prostitutes who subsequently abandon them. This house mother spends most nights up with a baby tied to her back and another in each arm. For her, it is not enough to give them shelter and clothing and food. She believes they need the human touch of a mother who loves them. So, as she provides the love for a multitude of children, it was our privilege at Eagles Wings to assist by removing the burden of worry for a few weeks of how to feed so many mouths.
With the gifts from donors, we were able to buy a mountain of food and sacks of much needed nappies. Thank you to all our financial supporters who make such acts of kindness possible.
