Paul and Joyce Kinataama

Paul Kinataama — Uganda

Paul's life under the former regime of Idi Armin is a story in itself, but as a young man he survived interrogation and torture in prison which changed his view on life.

Believing that God protected him at a time when many of his friends died in the prison cell next to him he committed his life to serve God and help others who were in hopeless and difficult circumstances.

Paul travels widely in Uganda to the most remote villages bringing a message of hope to those in need, supported in a small way by UK friends, churches and the Eagles Wings charity.

Paul lives close to the Katwe slum of Kampala and is overseeing a project to bring fresh water, housing, education and healthcare to the area.

Bishop Mark and Joyce Kariuki

Mark Kariuki — Kenya

I first met Mark in England over 15 years ago when with other visitors from Kenya he came to dinner at our home.

I didn't realise that this first meeting would develop into a long standing friendship between our two families and children and that I had truly met a godly man who was a visionary leader of many in Kenya with considerable integrity.

Mark is a well known figure on TV in Kenya and is commonly called 'Bishop Maru' - a sign of his status and the high regard with which he is held in his own nation.

Having travelled together in Kenya on many occasions I have personally seen him practise what he preaches particulary in regard to orphans, widows, street kids and the needy.

Mark has been and is involved in many programmes to bring in maize and fresh water to the drought stricken and barren parts of Kenya and is committed to seeing a positive change in the spiritual, physical and emotional and educational well-being of his fellow Kenyans.

It is a privilege to have Mark as a partner in Kenya for Eagles Wings and already we have together
dug the foundations of our first Girls home and orphanage in Elburgon to look after 39 girls.

We are working together to establish long term projects for young boys and girls in particular, many of whom have been hit hard in their families by HIV/Aids.

Mark is committed to seeing these youngsters clothed, fed, sheltered, educated and prepared for life in a safe and secure environment.

Fred IIyin and family

Fred Ilyin — Russia

In 1925 the Ilyin family along with many other Russian, Ukranian and Jewish people fled from the new Soviet Government to various countries around the world.

As a result Fred was born in Kuldja, China in 1954 moving through Australia, San Frnsisco and Seattle, Washington to settle in Canada where he now lives with his wife Valentina and four children Matt (17), Kyla (15), Alishia (14) and Tim (10).

In 1978 he made his first trip to Russia finding many who were struggling under Communism and the Soviet regime. Fred determined in his heart that he would do something to help those in need particularly the orphans, widows and street kids.

From 1981 Fred has travelled many times alone and with teams from the USA, Canada and Europe to be ‘Dad’ to the orphans and street kids of Perm, Siberia. He spends many hours in the orphanages of the Ural Mountains and has been actively distributing humanitarian aid to them with the blessing of the fifty orphanage directors in the region of Perm. Fred has established the evening care programme for street kids where a team from the New Manna Centre goes to the basements, crawl spaces, sewers and abandoned buildings to care for and feed the street kids.

Presently Fred oversees many short term trips to Russia to help children in need through feeding programmes, medical treadment, clean clothes and a hot steam bath, run from the Manna Children’s Centre.

Bruce and Sharon Oliver of Eagles Wings teamed up with Fred and first visited Siberia in 2001 with a view to encourage UK support for the orphans and street kids.
